Human Resources Coordinator – Benefits
Hours per week: Full time (35)
Salary: $45,000 - $52,000, depending on qualifications
Position Available: Immediately
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
This human resources position is responsible for coordinating the day-to-day operations of group benefit programs (health, dental, vision, life and AD&D insurance, long term disability, flexible spending accounts, 403(b) retirement plans, etc.). The employee assigned to this position ensures timely enrollment, termination, and changes to eligible benefits in accordance with CAL policy. In addition, the employee in this position must ensure that any approved changes in employee benefits are communicated to the employee and the benefit carrier in a timely manner. Successful fulfillment of this role will contribute to the motivation, morale, and retention of CAL staff.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Process enrollment, changes, and terminations for all CAL sponsored benefit programs.

Generate, retain, and review for accuracy, confirmation of enrollment with monthly premium and retroactive changes

Process monthly payments to benefit providers and manage accounts

Coordinate benefit setup and salary deductions with the Finance Office

Update and maintain ADP HRIS database and ensure the accuracy of all benefit enrollments with new and changing information

Generate reports from the employee database as requested

Process, new hire, status change, and termination paperwork

Respond to benefit inquiries from employees on plan provisions, benefit enrollments, status changes and other general inquiries
- Process and administer all leave of absence requests, disability paperwork including FMLA, disability, etc..
- Prepare and maintain monthly employee listings, new hire, and termination reports
- Provide necessary reports for allocation/billing changes
- Assist employees with benefit claim issues and plan changes
- Design and distribute materials for benefit orientations and open enrollment
- Manage CAL’s intranet front page
- Assists in coordinating social activities
- Other related activities as assigned by the Human Resources/Administrative Director
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Bachelor's degree in human resources or related field required. Three years of related experience preferred. PHR or CEBS professional designation preferred.
Experience:
- Outstanding customer service orientation with tact and diplomacy
- Strong organizational skills with a keen ability to prioritize and multi-task
- Excellent communicator (oral and written) including the desire to ask questions and learn from colleagues.
- Ability to adhere to and meet deadlines
- Experience in handling sensitive, confidential information
- Strong administrative and data management skills
- Ability to raise issues proactively and in a timely manner
- Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Working knowledge of DC and Federal FMLA, and COBRA laws
- Working knowledge of ADP Human Resource eXpert
- Computer (PC) proficiency and technical aptitude with ability to competently use MS Office Suite
Responsibility and Decision-Making Authority
Determine proper course of action to resolve escalated customer service issues, and advise Human Resources Director. Interpret benefit plan policies, and CAL policies and procedures regarding benefits.
