US Resettlement: Domestic Service Provider ToolkitComplete CO CurriculaThis section contains links to complete CO presentations, whether posted here or available elsewhere on the Internet. Please note: due to the localized nature of materials created for specific resettlement programs, or the fact that some materials are created for a specific ethnic group in mind, some resources may be most useful to your program as a foundation on which to develop your own presentation or curriculum, rather than as a document immediately suitable for your own clients. Life Skills Manual Level 1 - This 62-page manual, provided by Catholic Community Services of Utah, takes a pictorial approach to nine topics, including hygiene, housekeeping, emergencies, and U.S. laws. Originally developed for use with Somali Bantu refugees, this manual may be of use for other groups without a high degree of familiarity with aspects of life in the United States. (Agencies have CCSU permission to edit the information or pictures to fit the needs of their local communities or services; please attribute CCSU content to CCSU.) Viewing and Discussing Group-Specific (Bhutanese) Orientation Video - This lesson plan complements the Flagler College Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) Suruwat Video Learning Program, a project Flagler SIFE created to help Bhutanese-Nepalese refugees resettle and assimilate upon arrival to the United States. [Created by participants in ORR-funded Community Orientation Skills Development Workshop participants in Jacksonville, FL, June 2010] Life Skills for Burundian Refugees - The U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI) "Supporting the Successful Integration of Burundian Refugees" program has developed two volumes of culturally and linguistically appropriate orientation materials for Burundian refugees. Volume 1 addresses the role of the resettlement agency, personal care, nutrition, health, adjusting to a new home, safety and emergencies, housing, and employment; Volume 2 addresses laws and rights, managing money, using a bank, education, parenting in the U.S., family communication skills, domestic violence, and the use and abuse of alcohol. Each volume is available in English and Kirundi, and is accompanied by a Facilitator's Guide. Video materials are also available in Kirundi. Journey of Hope: CO for Refugee Women in the U.S. is a U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants publication of six modules ( “Applied Life Skills,” “Parenting,” “Child Care,” “Health and Wellness,” “Domestic Violence,” and “Public Benefits and Community Services”), including overviews, assessments, lesson plans, information, and instructions, guiding facilitators through each topic over a number of sessions.
