BEST Plus Online Activation Guide

  1. When visiting the BEST Plus Online Activation site, you will see the sign-in box illustrated below. If it is your first time visiting, you will need to request a password by following the link “If you do not have a password, please click here.” A password will be sent to your email address within a few minutes.

    Your password will be 5 characters in the format of Letter Number Letter Number Letter.

    If you have not registered your e-mail with us, please contact us at bpsupport@cal.org.

  2. Check your email address for your password. When you have received it, return to the BEST Plus Purchase Code Activation Web site and enter your email address, password and Customer number.

    Your Customer number is the unique ID assigned to your program in the BEST Plus database. If you do not know your Customer number, please contact your program director or coordinator or BEST Plus User Support at 866-845-2378, option 1, to obtain your number.

  3. Sign in and you will see your program’s balance along with the last test administration activation that was made. Please check to make sure these figures match your own records. On the bottom of this page you will find the box illustrated below. Type in your Registration Key. For more information on how to obtain your Registration Key click here

  4. Enter your 5-letter Registration Key, double check on the next screen that the quantity listed is what you desire to activate. If so, click the large gray button, illustrated below.

    However, if this amount does not match your desired quantity, click the link at the very bottom of the page to cancel the transaction.
  5. On the last screen, as shown in the illustration below, you will see your Purchase Code. It is very important to write this down as the test administrations unlocked using this Purchase Code have already been subtracted from your account. You may activate more tests by clicking the link at the bottom of this page. When you have entered in your 5-digit Purchase Code into your BEST Plus software, you are ready to start testing!

BEST Plus Online Product Ordering Guide

  1. Browse the BEST Plus products available at the CAL Store. You can view a full description of a product by clicking on the product name.

  2. On a product’s description page, you may add your desired quantity of that item to your shopping cart. Note: When ordering BEST Plus computer-adaptive test administrations, please order in increments of 20 and 50, as those are the increments in which the software unlocks administrations. Odd amounts will not be able to be unlocked on your computer.

  3. Once you have finished shopping, click on the gray “Checkout” button in the upper right hand side of the window.

  4. On the next screen, verify that the correct quantities of items are in your cart. In order to proceed to the next screen, you must enter your Customer Number which has been provided to your program director or coordinator. Click "Continue" when your Customer Number has been entered.

  5. On the next screen, enter your billing address and shipping address, if applicable. For computer-adaptive test administrations, no shipping address is needed as they are added to your account at CAL.

  6. Enter your payment information on the final screen. Payment can be made by credit card or purchase order. When paying by purchase order, we must receive a hard copy of your purchase order on your organization’s letterhead faxed to us at 1-888-700-3629 before we can process your order. All orders placed online will be processed within one business day of the receipt of your order.


BEST Plus CD Quick Reference Guide

To obtain a Registration Key use he BEST Plus Test CD (maroon-colored CD). This CD is used to give the computer-adaptive test by trained BEST Plus test administrators. It includes the Test Administration Program and Score Management Software.


Note: CAL must have received and registered payment in its BEST Plus Test Administrator Registry before you can receive the Purchase Code that unlocks your purchased test administrations.

Step 1: Insert the maroon-colored BEST Plus Test CD into the CD drive


The BEST Plus Test CD is auto-loading, which means that it should run automatically. If the CD doesn’t auto-load, select “Run” from your Windows Start menu. If D: is your CD drive, type: D:\Run BEST_Plus_menu.exe, then select “OK.”

Both BEST Plus software programs run automatically from a CD drive. This means that the BEST Plus CD must be in your CD drive to run the software. The BEST Plus software will not create an icon on your Windows Start Menu or Desktop, because it must always be run from the BEST Plus CD.

Step 2: Add BEST Plus test administrations


When you first use the BEST Plus Test CD on a computer, you will be reminded that you must add test administrations before you can administer tests on that computer (including using the Score Management Software to enter scores from the print-based version).

Note:If it is not the first time you are using the Test CD, you will need to obtain your Registration Key by entering the Score Management Software and then clicking on the "Buy More Administrations" tab in the upper-right corner.

Step 3: Select the number of test administrations you are adding and click the “Purchase” button

Step 4: Obtain the Registration Key using the online activation system (or by calling BEST Plus User Support at 1-866-845-2378, option 1).

 

The next screen will display the Registration Key you need to give to CAL to obtain a Purchase Code for that computer.

Note: To use the Administrator Practice CD, you do not need to contact CAL for a Purchase Code. You must enter a Purchase Code of “12345” in the red box on the registration screen. You can run the Practice CD on the same computer as the Test CD without the programs interacting, because information for the two programs is saved in different places on the computer hard drive.


The purchase of test administrations applies to the computer in which the Purchase Code is entered, not to the CD. If the BEST Plus Test CD is moved to another computer, test administrations will need to be purchased or transferred in order to run the BEST Plus program from that computer, even though the same CD is used. (See the Test Administrator Guide for more details.)


You will then see a screen that reads “Registration Successful!”

Remember, the password is always mexico for both the maroon Test CD and the black Practice CD. The password is pre-set and cannot be changed.

Step 6: Enter student information

 

You can select from lists of previously entered students, classes, or sites, or type the name of a new student, class, or site. You must enter the student name and registration number; you can leave the class and site blank.
