Lesson Plans and Tools
The Cultural Orientation Resource Center hosts numerous orientation lesson plans on its Web site, contributed by partners in the U.S. resettlement program or developed by CAL itself. The Overseas Service Provider Toolkit contains lesson plans and tools developed and implemented by CO providers overseas, to be used in concert with CAL's Welcome to the U.S.: A Guidebook for Refugees. These lessons may be useful to domestic resettlement staff who would like to strengthen their CO delivery, other domestic partners interested in learning about the content and approach of CO overseas, and other overseas CO programs looking for some fresh ways to deliver information and key messages. Lesson plans in the Overseas Toolkit are organized by topic and by CO program. The Domestic Service Providers Toolkit includes a variety of resources to strengthen delivery of community orientation to arriving refugees. As with the overseas toolkit, lesson plans and promising practices address each of the topics in the Welcome guide, with the exception of pre-arrival processing and travel. Additional resources include tools for trainers and descriptions of orientation programs throughout the U.S. These resources were contributed by domestic service providers around the country, collaboratively developed by participants in the CO workshops facilitated by COR Center staff in various communities, or submitted by CAL.
