COPI: A Computer-Based Test of Arabic and Spanish Oral Proficiency

CAL developed the Computerized Oral Proficiency Instrument (COPI) as an alternative to the audiotape-mediated Simulated Oral Proficiency Interview (SOPI). The COPI is a computer-based, semi-adaptive test of Arabic and Spanish oral proficiency intended for students in later years of high school, college students, and professionals. Learn more.



Multimedia Rater Training Program (MRTP) Available in Three Languages

The MRTP is an interactive software program designed to teach professionals to rate oral language proficiency in Spanish, French, and German. Learn more.



Foreign Language Assessment Directory (FLAD)

The FLAD is a free searchable directory of information on nearly 200 tests in over 90 languages. Search the directory.

    This companion online tutorial for the FLAD introduces concepts in language testing to help with selecting tests and using test results appropriately and efficiently. Learn more.

Resources Focus on Language Proficiency Assessment in Grades K–8

CAL offers innovative language proficiency assessment instruments designed to allow young students to demonstrate their highest level of performance in oral fluency, grammar, vocabulary, and listening comprehension. Professional development workshops for CAL’s early language assessments—SOPA, ELLOPA, and COPE—provide training for educators on the effective use of these instruments. SOPA Online Training courses teach participants how to administer and rate students' oral language using the SOPA. Learn more.


COR Center Update

Cultural Orientation Resource Center Announces Expansion of Work

CAL is pleased to announce that the Office of Refugee Resettlement, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, has selected our Cultural Orientation Resource (COR) Center to provide technical assistance on orientation and incoming refugee groups. The COR Center will expand its current activities to address the needs that arise after a newcomer’s initial resettlement experience. Provision of technical assistance during the three-year project period will include activities such as orientation capacity-building workshops, online workshops on orientation and new groups, development of brief publications, research into integration trends for select groups, and presentations at state and national conferences.
