PreK-12 ELL Assessment Intern

Fall 2013

Job Title: ELL Assessment Intern (I-13-02)
Program Area: PreK-12 English Language Learners (ELL) Assessment
Hours Per Week: up to 20 hrs/wk
Salary: $15.00/hour
Position Available: September-December 2013

The Center for Applied Linguistics (CAL) conducts research on language testing, and provides professional development for language teachers on assessment. CAL’s assessment projects serve foreign and English language learners of all ages, in addition to bilinguals and heritage language learners. The PreK-12 English Language Learners team at CAL seeks a self-motivated individual who can work during the fall 2013 for a 2-3 month internship. The intern will have the opportunity to work with leading experts and scholars in the field of language testing on assessments that will ascertain initial Spanish academic language proficiency and will help monitor Spanish language development over time.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

We are primarily interested in a graduate student who is familiar with and interested in the topical areas of Bilingual Education, English Language Learners, Spanish Language Learners, PreK-12, and Testing/Assessment. The selected intern will:

  • Assist in preparations for pilot- and field- testing
  • Assist with logistics for field testing sites
  • Assist in identifying and evaluating field test administrators
  • Assist in preparation of pilot- and field-test materials
  • Assist in editing of Spanish test materials
  • Prepare and maintain tracking spreadsheets and communications during test development and field-testing
  • Organize tracking of FTAs timesheets/administrative documentation and communication during FT
  • Assist with other tasks as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Educational or working experience in language/linguistics, assessment, education or related discipline is required
  • Experience with Microsoft Office is required
  • A native or highly-proficient Spanish ability is required
  • Knowledge of Bilingual Education, Spanish Language Learners, Academic Language for Grades 1-2, and Testing/Assessment is highly desired
