Realizing the Vision of Two-Way Immersion
Presenters: Julie Sugarman and Liz Howard
This presentation highlighted a new book from Liz Howard and Julie Sugarman, Realizing the Vision of Two-way Immersion: Fostering Effective Programs and Classrooms. Drawing on ten years of research, the authors illustrate how the cultures of intellectualism, equity and leadership reinforce positive instructional practices at four effective TWI schools.

Comparing Writing Development in English and Spanish
Presenter: Liz Howard
This presentation focused on English and Spanish writing outcomes from a large-scale two-way immersion study of upper elementary students. Specifically, the presenter shared longitudinal findings of writing development over a three-year period, highlighting similarities and differences within and across languages, native language groups, and writing domains.

Assessments in the Partner Language: A New Resource
Presenter: Julie Sugarman
Julie presented a Web page under development at CAL that lists published literacy and content assessments in Spanish and other languages that are suitable for TWBI programs. Participants were invited to provide input to the project by sharing their opinions on the strengths and weaknesses of the tests they currently use.
