Building on the Multilingual/Multicultural Profiles of Adult Learners
In our focus on developing English language skills of adult learners, it is possible to overlook their often complex and rich lives in their native languages and cultures and find ways to build on and even enhance first/native language interests and skills in instruction. This workshop describes ways that groups in the United States are enhancing the vitality of languages other than English in the United States and gives opportunities for participants to discuss how this can be done in their programs and instruction.

Implementing Evidence-Based, Student-Centered Instructional Practices
What is evidence-based practice, and how can practitioners examine and shape their practice in light of evidence? Participants learn definitions of and criteria for evidence, find out about sources of evidence related to learner-centered education with adult English language learners, discuss ways to examine and modify instruction in their contexts based on evidence, and develop strategies for working and collaborating with others to review and apply evidence in their instruction on a long-term basis.
