About CALPast CAL Presentations2011 CREATE ConferenceNovember 3 – 4, 2011 2011 CREATE Conference Educating Middle School English Language Learners for College and Career Readiness The 2011 CREATE capstone conference will highlight current research on methods for building literacy skills and oral language development for English language learners across the content areas. CREATE researchers will describe their work on a school-wide intervention targeting 7th grade English language learners in science, social studies, English language arts, and math. Other top scholars will discuss the implications of their research on supporting English language learners' language and literacy development across the curriculum. Participants from the Center for Applied Linguistics include Diane August, Annie Duguay, Jen Himmel, and Deborah Short. CREATE (the National Center for Research on the Educational Achievement and Teaching of English Language Learners) is a research program designed to address specific challenges in the education of English language learners in the middle grades (Grades 4-8) and is funded by the Institute of Education Sciences, U.S. Department of Education. |
