Celebrating 40 Years of Immersion Education in the U.S.
This presentation focuses on the most successful school program that has ever been implemented in the U.S. for promoting children’s second language proficiency -- immersion education. The model for K-12 immersion education in the U.S., started in 1971 in a Culver City, California, elementary school, was based on a model from Canada started by professors at McGill University. Come help celebrate 40 years of immersion by hearing about what CAL has learned in the updating of our comprehensive directory of elementary, middle, and high schools that teach all or part of their curriculum through a second language. The Directory of Foreign Language Immersion Programs in U.S. Schools now includes 21 languages and over 400 schools. Search the directory.
