Language Vitality and Language Learning Opportunities: Developing Knowledge and Building Community
This session describes the work of the National Consortium of Language Program Databases, which promotes collaboration among organizations and individuals focused on developing proficiency in languages other than English; and the Alliance for the Advancement of Heritage Languages, which documents heritage language programs, makes resources on heritage language development available; and makes connections with heritage language stakeholders. Participants discuss ways we can collaborate and work together to build the community of heritage language educators and researchers.

Assessment Strategies for STARTALK Programs
This presentation addresses two years of data collection researching the alignment of three instruments used to measure student language growth in short-term STARTALK programs. These instruments include an objective computerized test, a teacher observational checklist, and an online student self-assessment.
