Developing Oral Language for Academic Success for Upper-Elementary Newcomer Students
This interactive session, chocked full of strategy ideas, will provide teachers of upper-elementary-level newcomer students with activity ideas for helping students better comprehend in “one-way,” academic listening situations and with scaffolds for eliciting oral responses to questions posed in content instruction. Using authentic classroom video, teachers will observe how a teacher uses a text-based instructional conversation to scaffold oral language in English language arts.

Supporting SIOP Implementation with Authentic Classroom Video
This presentation highlights methods for supporting teachers in their application of the SIOP Model using video. The presenter will show clips of new videos developed by CAL SIOP and explain how they can be used in district or school-based professional development to enrich learning through the demonstration of particular techniques.
