Dr. Lyle F. Bachman

Dr. Bachman is currently Professor and Chair, Department of Applied Linguistics & TESL at the University of California, Los Angeles. He is a past president of the American Association for Applied Linguistics and of the International Language Testing Association. Dr. Bachman has twice won the Kenneth Mildenberger Prize from the Modern Language Association of America. In 2004, he received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Language Testing Association. Dr. Bachman is widely recognized for his influence as a researcher in the field of language testing.
Two of his books, Fundamental Considerations in Language Testing and Language Testing in Practice (with Adrian Palmer), are considered to be seminal works in the field. His most recent publication is Statistical Analyses for Language Assessment (with Antony J. Kunnan), published by Cambridge University Press. Dr. Bachman has published numerous articles and books on language assessment and also teaches courses and conducts practitioner training workshops in language assessment.
His current research interests include validation theory, issues in assessing the academic achievement and academic English of English language learners in schools, and the interface between language testing research and second language acquisition research.
