Through her description in Spanish, it is clear that the student has understood at least some part of the question that was asked. She is eager to express her thoughts on the importance of having a car and to demonstrate her understanding of the English question. However, she seems to lack the vocabulary and language structure in English to express herself. Like many beginning language learners, she seems to understand more than she is able to say.
