CAELA State Capacity Building Initiative

The Center for Adult English Language Acquisition (CAELA) was funded by the Office of Adult and Vocational Education, U.S. Department of Education to improve the capacity of states to provide technical assistance to professional developers and teachers of adult English language learners. A major activity that supports this goal is capacity-building workshops conducted by CAELA staff for state teams of ESL professionals.

Since 2005 CAELA has worked with teams from 24 states on this initiative. In 2005 meetings were held in Washington, DC; Anaheim, California; and Atlanta, Georgia.
