More about last year's conference

The 2008 CREATE conference builds on the explorations of 2007.

Colleagues from across the United States gathered October 1-2, 2007, in Oak Brook, IL, to participate in Academic Language and Content: A Focus on English Language Learners in the Middle School. The conference focused on the importance and distinguishing characteristics of academic language, strategies for fostering academic language development through instruction and school-wide initiatives, and the accurate assessment of academic language, particularly for English language learners in middle schools.

The 2007 conference featured sessions on research conducted by CREATE scholars and others, and included perspectives from research and from the field. Presentations addressed several domains in which academic language is an important consideration, including instruction, assessment, and teacher professional development. Integrated small group sessions fostered rich discussion among all participants.
