Speaker Biography
CATHERINE (CARA) RICHARDS (Ph.D., University of California, Santa Barbara, 2004) is an assistant professor in the Special Education Program at California State University, Long Beach. Her professional experiences include teaching in general education, special education, and working as a reading specialist for students at-risk. Dr. Richards received her Ph.D. in Special Education, Disabilities and Risk Studies from University of California, Santa Barbara. Her research and publications focus on interventions for students at-risk for learning disabilities and English learners. Currently, Dr. Richards is a research investigator with the Center for Research on the Educational Achievement and Teaching of English Language Learners (CREATE) funded by the U.S. Department of Education, Institute of Education Sciences (IES).
Dr. Richards presented Linking Science and Academic English: Teacher Development and Student Achievement at the 2008 CREATE Conference.
