Expanding educational opportunities in Ghana: bilingualism and biliteracy for young learners
Individuals’ literacy skills grow over time with support. Homes, schools, communities, and societies all contribute to the process through which learners become literate. Among the supports for literacy learning in the EQUALL project have been development of Literacy Standards and Milestones, which reflect the society’s expectations for pupils’ progress in reading and writing. Another source of support was the Culture of Reading project, which encouraged communities and schools to make reading and writing important in daily life.
