Matrix with Key Features of Secondary Newcomer Programs (1996-2000)

The following matrix is the product of a research study, Newcomers: Language and Academic Programs for Recent Immigrants, sponsored by the Center for Research on Education, Diversity & Excellence (CREDE), conducted at the Center for Applied Linguistics. CREDE is funded by the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Educational research and Improvement, National Institute for the Education of At-Risk Students. The matrix shows key features of 115 secondary level newcomer programs across the United States. The data were compiled from 1996-2000. Profiles of the programs may be accessed directly from the matrix by clicking on the name of the program (color highlighted). Each profile provides general program information, student demographics, features of instruction and assessment, program staffing, and other services offered to newcomer students.

NOTE 2: The matrix category, More than 1 school year, includes programs that are designated as 1 school year but also offer a summer program as well as programs that are designated as more than 1 school year (e.g., three- or four-semester programs).
