Colloquium: Language Moves in Secondary STEM Education: Examining English Learner Emerging Discourses
How is language conceptualized, utilized, understood and employed as a tool or hindrance for learning in the secondary STEM classroom? How can teachers’ awareness of language enhance the learning experience of ELs in secondary STEM classrooms? We examine the intertextual connections between oral and written texts in secondary STEM classrooms.

Intertextuality and Second Language Writing: An Analysis of Middle School Student Explanations in Science on a K-12 Academic Language Assessment
This paper presents an analysis of 225 written test tasks from a national K-12 academic language assessment. Using discourse analysis, we examine intertextual linkages between the academic language provided in the written test prompt and subsequent use in student writing samples.
