This paper portrays the development of linguistic complexity using a corpus of adult L2 conversational English drawn from a standardized oral proficiency assessment. Quantitative and qualitative analyses demonstrate a noticeable progression in linguistic patterns related to lexicogrammatical resources, elaboration, discourse markers, and subordination associated with increasing levels of L2 complexity.
