Developing Oral Language that Fosters Academic Success for Students with Interrupted Formal Education

10:55am - 12:30pm
Presented at: Mid-Atlantic Equity Consortium, Inc. 2013 Annual Conference

This session will provide teachers of students with interrupted formal education (SIFE) with strategies for developing listening comprehension and oral language production that address academic learning from the start. Teachers will be provided with strategies that help students better comprehend in “one-way” listening situations, and strategies that provide scaffolds for oral responses to questions. Using authentic classroom video, teachers will observe how a teacher uses a text-based instructional conversation to scaffold oral language output.
