Presented at: RITELL 2019

A growing number of students from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds demonstrate unique learning needs as they work to acquire English as a second language, as well as meet the standards. However, when these students struggle academically, it is the schools’ responsibility to assess whether it is due to language differences or disability.

During this keynote address participants will explore issues that challenge the practice of correctly differentiating between learning difficulties and second language acquisition issues, and examine the implementation of an RTI/MTSS program that supports not only the academic needs of the students, but their linguistic and cultural development.
