About the Webinar
In this interactive 3-part webinar series, participants will learn background information about newcomer students, as well as practical strategies, lesson modifications, and adaptations for supporting the language, content, and non-academic needs of students new to U.S. schools. This third session will focus on the socio-emotional needs of newcomer students, how schools and teachers might best address them, and application activities for improving students’ access to core content.
About the Presenter
Ann Hengerer has been conducting teacher professional development on sheltered instruction and ESL methods nationwide for 10 years, with a focus on mainstream teachers’ instruction of English learner students. She is also a mentor and coach for student interns at George Washington University’s Graduate School of Education and Human Development. Ms. Hengerer previously served as an ESL Teacher and ESL Resource Teacher for over 30 years in Montgomery County, Maryland.
