The ACTFL Arabic SIG announces the 2015 Dora Johnson Awards, sponsored by the Qatar Foundation International (QFI). The 2015 Dora Johnson Awards will provide funding up to $1,000 for 15 K-12 Arabic language educators to support attendance at the 2015 ACTFL Convention in San Diego, California in November 2015.
The awards are named for the late Dora Johnson, a lifelong supporter of Arabic language education who worked to increase the Arabic presence at ACTFL. Dora was a former member of the ALC Advisory Board for QFI.

Dora Johnson was on the staff of the Center for Applied Linguistics for over 45 years and was involved in a wide variety of projects during her time at CAL – all with a common theme: making languages and linguistic knowledge accessible to the widest possible audience. Developing a network of K-12 teachers of Arabic in the U.S. was one of her most cherished goals.
