Testing Burden on ELLs Needs Easing, Federal Officials Say

Officials with the U.S. Department of Education are reviewing the number and types of tests given to English-language learners. Libia Gil, the head of the U.S. Department of Education's office of English-language acquisition, is looking to ease the burden of testing for English learners and their teachers. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan has suggested administering content tests in students' native languages.
