Professional Development on Helping English Language Learners (K-12) Succeed in School

CAL provided three 1-week institutes for teachers on helping English language learners succeed in school. Each institute focused on a different grade range: lower elementary, upper elementary, and middle/high school. Each institute followed a principles-to-practice approach and was based on current research and best practices for ELLs. Course topics included foundations of second language acquisition, ESL methodology, sheltered instruction, lesson and unit planning, classroom assessments, and culturally responsive teaching.
