Research

Research is a critical part of CAL’s mission. CAL is involved in a variety of research projects and much of our grant and project work includes a substantial research component. CAL publishes the findings, professional opinions, and best practices developed as a result of our research. We’re also focused on using our research as a foundation for the development of pragmatic and forward-thinking solutions to a variety of issues related to language and culture.

In recent years, CAL has led or participated in projects aimed at developing new knowledge relevant to the critical factors that influence the development of English-language literacy in children and adolescents. We have studied the effects of particular instructional models on student academic performance and reviewed the research literature on the development of literacy among language minority children and youth. To bring valuable contributions to the field, CAL has received funding from, among others, the U.S. Department of Education, the Carnegie Corporation of New York, the Rockefeller Foundation, and local and state education agencies.

We invite you to review our list of current and recent research projects. If you are interested in working with CAL on a research project, please contact us.
