ShelteredInstructionforAcademicAchievement

This professional development resource, available in VHS and DVD format, comprehensively demonstrates the research-based SIOP Model. It can be used to provide ongoing professional development for those who teach content to English language learners, as it showcases strategies for adapting instruction to the students' academic and language needs. Each of the SIOP Model's eight components is presented through footage from the math, science, and social studies classrooms of six exemplary teachers at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. The teachers elaborate on their lessons and SIOP techniques, and teacher educators and researchers describe the theory and research that support the model. The video serves as a companion to Using the SIOP Model: Professional Development Manual for Sheltered Instruction. 2002
