Cubans: Their History and Culture by Barbara Robson
This 1996 culture profile was developed with funding from the Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration of the U.S. Department of State to give those working with Cubans a brief introduction to Cuban geography and history, particularly the history of Cuba's relations with the United States. This culture profile discusses perspectives that Cuban newcomers are likely to have brought with them and the potential impact on their resettlement experience in the United States. It concludes with a brief sketch of Cuban Spanish and lists some of the linguistic issues that Cubans are likely to encounter in learning English. Read the profile online or browse the other culture profiles produced by CAL’s Cultural Orientation Resource Center.
