What's Different About Teaching Reading to Students Learning English?

Learn how to use this curriculum to provide professional development to educators who teach reading in classes with English language learners

Please join us at one of our upcoming three-day Training of Trainers (TOT) Institutes on CAL's widely-used What’s Different? professional development program. Participants will receive the complete training materials, step-by-step directions on how to deliver What's Different? trainings, hands-on experience using the materials, training tips and much more! The three-day What's Different? Training of Trainers Institute is designed for elementary and middle school ESL and reading specialists who have experience training teachers. An ideal training team includes an ESL and a reading specialist.

What's Different?  incorporates key findings from the National Reading Panel (2000) and the National Literacy Panel (2006).

What you will receive:

    • The complete training package (trainer’s manual, study guide, DVD, CD of transparencies)

    • Step-by-step directions on how to deliver What's Different? trainings

    • Hands-on experience using the materials

    • Training tips on how to deliver the trainings

    • Suggestions about planning successful staff development sessions

    • Discussion of delivery options, from individual sessions to full graduate courses

    • An overview of other CAL services and programs

Cost

$950/person. Send 2 people or more and pay $900 each.
Cost includes all training materials and breakfast and lunch each day.

Course size is small - limited to 50 participants (with a presenter ratio of no more than 1 to 25).

Daily Training Schedule

8:30 – 9:00 am Breakfast and conversation
9:00 am – Noon Morning training session
Noon – 1:00 pm Lunch and networking
1:00 – 4:00 pm Afternoon training session (including mid-afternoon dessert break)

Registration and Payment

Register as soon as possible.

Please have your method of payment ready (credit card or purchase order) at the time of registration.  If paying by purchase order, you can complete the online payment form by entering your purchase order number.  A signed copy of the purchase order should be faxed to 888-700-3629 once your online payment form has been completed. Your registration is not complete until the signed purchase order is received. Registration will be closed when we reach 50 participants for each Institute.

Graduate Credit Option
*Enrollees in the 2010 Training of Trainers Institutes will have the option to receive two graduate credits from Catholic University in Washington, D.C. for their participation in the institute. Obtaining graduate credit will necessitate the completion of a manageable, post-institute assignment.  The graduate credit will be available for an additional fee of $495.00.  Individuals wishing to obtain the credit must register for this option on-site during the institute. Payment in the form of check, money order or credit card will be accepted at that time. Cancellation Policy
Refunds will be provided for all cancellations received in writing three weeks prior to the course start date. After that date, registered individuals can choose to receive the What's Different? materials by mail or transfer their registration to another individual.
