English Language Learners

According to the 2010 U.S. Census, of the 281 million people aged 5 and over in the United States, 55.4 million people (20 percent of this population) speak a language other than English at home.

As the number of English language learners continues to grow, educators are seeking effective programs and instructional strategies to serve them.

CAL conducts projects and offers a variety of research-based resources related to the education of English language learners in a variety of settings:

  • Prekindergarten-Grade 12 programs

  • Universities and community colleges

  • Adult education programs

  • Workplace programs
