Refugee Integration
The United States accepts tens of thousands of refugees each year from diverse regions of the world. Increasingly, they come from more countries and more ethnicities than ever before, and meeting their resettlement needs in this context becomes more complex.
Since 1975, CAL has been a leader in refugee education and orientation.
The Cultural Orientation Resource (COR) Center, housed at CAL, works
closely with the U.S. government, international organizations, refugee
resettlement
agencies in the United States, and their representatives overseas
to
-
Develop and distribute resources about refugee training and resettlement
-
Provide technical assistance regarding refugees' native cultures, languages, and orientation needs
-
Develop a network of refugee providers who exchange refugee orientation information, concerns, and best practices
We have provided a quick overview of some of the resources available from the COR Center. Many of CAL's resources designed to help English language learners are also described here and throughout our Web site.

For more information, visit the COR Center Web site.
Publications and Resources
The COR Center specializes in the development of materials that help refugee newcomers understand fundamental aspects of life in the United States. Learn more.
Refugee Backgrounders
In the tradition of the culture profiles, COR Center Refugee Backgrounders provide key information about new refugee groups for U.S. resettlement workers but in a smaller digest format. Backgrounders are available in two formats, basic and enhanced. Our first Enhanced Refugee Backgrounder, Refugees from Iraq, is now available. Learn more.
Culture Profiles
The COR Center produces culture profiles to promote understanding of new refugee populations. Culture profiles provide short introductions to the history and the cultural background of refugee populations and are a valuable resource for service providers, employers, educators, and others interested in learning more about other cultures.
