Foreign Language Survey Underway
CAL recently assisted the American Council for the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) in conducting a survey of assessment uses and needs. Over 1,600 foreign language teachers and administrators from the PK through graduate levels participated in this online survey. Results will be used to inform efforts to provide language educators with the tests and testing information they need effectively assess their students. Learn more.

Foreign Language Assessment Resources

Foreign Language Assessment Directory (FLAD)
Now Available

The FLAD is a free, searchable directory of information on nearly 200 tests in over 80 languages. Two of CAL’s existing test directories, the Foreign Language Assessment Database for Grades K-12 and Foreign Language Test Database, have been combined and updated into one comprehensive, easily accessible resource.

The FLAD serves as a starting point for teachers and educators to search for foreign language assessments. Available information about assessments includes grade and proficiency levels, languages for which each test is available, skills targeted by a test, information about the test’s development and the publisher’s or developer’s contact information for further inquiries.

Update

CAL will develop and host an online tutorial designed to help educators choose the most appropriate test for their needs. Learn more about this upcoming enhancement.
