PreK–12 ESL Assessment
The spotlight in pre-kindergarten to twelfth grades is currently on understanding the academic achievement of English language learners. CAL is doing its part to encourage and foster higher levels of academic achievement among English language learners through its assessment projects.
Projects
World-class Instructional Design and Assessment (WIDA)
CAL is working with a consortium of thirteen states to
create and enhance large scale language and academic assessments
for English language learners (ELLs) in grades K–12 in order to
meet the legislated demands of No Child Left Behind. Within the
thirteen consortium partner states reside nearly 350,000 English
language learners in grades K–12 in approximately 3000 school districts,
large and small. Learn more.
Diagnostic Assessment of Reading Comprehension
CAL is developing a reading comprehension test battery for English
language learners and native English speaker children from Grades
3 through 5.
The test battery will include measurement of decoding and word
fluency, central comprehension processes and children's sensitivity
to linguistic variation in the text. Learn more.
