TWI Bulletin #14: Conference Presentations and the new Dual-U (4/7/2003)

Upcoming TWI conference presentations by CAL researchers:

National Association of Elementary School Principals Annual Conference, Anaheim, CA
April 15, 2003, 8:30am-10:00am (Convention Center 206A). Fred Genesee (in place of Liz Howard) will present "Two-Way Immersion 101," an overview of two-way immersion education.

American Educational Research Association, Chicago, IL
April 22, 2003, 8:15am-9:45am (Hyatt, Riverside Center, Exhibition Hall). Poster Fair: "Two-Way Immersion Education: Promoting Bilingualism and Biliteracy for All Students." Posters will include information on TWI features, bilingualism and biliteracy attainment, teaching strategies, sheltered instruction, and TWI graduates' attitudes toward school.

4th International Symposium on Bilingualism, Tempe, AZ
May 2, 2003, 2:15pm-5:30pm (Memorial Union, Fiesta). Colloquium: "Promoting Bilingualism and Biliteracy in Schools: Two-Way Immersion Education." Participants are Donna Christian, Elizabeth Howard, Julie Sugarman, and Kathryn Lindholm-Leary.


Dual-U (http://www.dualu.org/) an eight-module, on-line professional development
curriculum, based on Dual Language Instruction: A Handbook for Enriched
Education by N. Cloud, F. Genesee and E. Hamayan (Heinle & Heinle, 2000)
was launched on April 1, 2003. This curriculum is designed to assist
elementary and secondary teachers and administrators in developing,
implementing, and assessing dual language or two-way immersion programs.

A Training of Trainers for the Dual-U Curriculum is being offered on
June 24, 25 & 26, 2003 at the Illinois Resource Center in the Chicago
area. Else Hamayan and Fred Genesee will be participating in this three
