Do you have a dual language instructional practice, piece of research, or incredible support idea that you would like to share? Please submit your proposal on-line: http://www.lacosecha2006.org. The lead presenter of each selected presentation will receive a complimentary registration to support their participation.

Dual U Training of Trainers

Illinois Resource Center - Chicago Area

June 20, 21 & 22, 2006

 

Participate in a comprehensive, three day training of trainers for staff developers in sessions led by the authors of Dual Language Instruction: A Handbook for Enriched Education by Nancy Cloud, Fred Genesee and Else Hamayan. The training will cover the eight module Web-based curriculum, http://www.dualu.org, designed to assist elementary and secondary teachers and administrators in developing, implementing and assessing dual language programs. For a registration brochure, please go to http://www.thecenterweb.org/irc/pdf/dualu-sum06.pdf. Language & Culture Summer Institute

Illinois Resource Center & Oaxaca Mexico

CARLA Summer Institutes 2006

Minneapolis, Minnesota

 

Immersion 101: An Introduction to Immersion Teaching 

NOTE: Immersion 101 will be offered twice this summer!

June 26–30, 2006 (Session 1) -or- July 31–August 4, 2006 (Session 2)

Presenters: Diane Tedick and Tara Fortune

This institute provides novice immersion teachers with the tools and information they need to survive and thrive in the immersion classroom. The institute also includes a two-day session for administrators of immersion education programs.

 

Meeting the Challenges of Immersion Education: 

"How well do students speak the immersion language?"

July 24–28, 2006

Presenters: Tara Fortune and Lynn Thompson 

Immersion educators will come together to learn about a range of oral language proficiency assessment tools available for K-8 immersion programs. A must for veteran K-12 immersion teachers and curriculum coordinators!

 

Curriculum Development for Content-Based Language Instruction

July 31–August 4, 2006

Presenter: Laurent Cammarata

This institute will provide foreign language teachers with the background and tools needed to implement content-based instruction (CBI) in their second language classroom. Participants will have extended time to create CBI materials using online resources.

 

The cost of each of the CARLA summer institutes is $300 if registration is received by May 31, 2006 and $350 after that date. Dual Language And Immersion Preschool Consortium Conference

For Dual Language and Immersion Early Childhood Educators

Thursday, July 6th, 2006 and Friday, July 7th, 2006

La Escuelita, New York City

 

La Escuelita will be hosting a conference for dual language and immersion early childhood educators on July 6th and 7th, 2006. Speakers will include specialists such as Shelley Rappaport, a researcher and policy analyst with expertise in bilingual education, and Brian Goldstein, professor and acting chair of the Department of Communication Sciences at Temple University who is an expert in bilingual speech and language development. We are offering the two-day conference in an effort to create a support network and we hope the conference will provide the opportunity to discuss commonalities and form objectives for a consortium of dual language and immersion preschools that we are also organizing.
