TWI Bulletin #8: Illinois Resource Center Summer Institute (5/1/2001)

Announcing a Summer Institute from the Illinois Resource Center

Meet and Work with Nancy Cloud, Fred Genesee and Else Hamayan , authors of Dual Language Instruction: A Handbook for Enriched Education in Oaxaca, Mexico, August 1 to 9 or 12, 2001.

The following course will be offered:
Methods and Materials for Teaching Bilingual Students: Dual Language Focus

  • Instructional strategies for content area classes: science, social studies and math
  • Content-based language instruction and curriculum development
  • Two way immersion, classroom management and collaborative strategies

University credit available through National-Louis University, Evanston, Illinois

A variety of attendance options are available.

All-Inclusive
Option 1 - $1,750.00

Eight-day trip and completion of a three credit course in Bilingual Methods
(National-Louis University #CIL-506)

All-Inclusive
Option 2 - $1,910.00

Eleven-day trip and completion of a three credit course in Bilingual Methods
(National-Louis University #CIL-506)

The all inclusive price includes

  • Air transportation from Chicago O’Hare Airport to Oaxaca Airport, Mexico via Mexico City, and return to Chicago O’Hare Airport
  • Transportation to and from Oaxaca Airport, baggage handling and tips
  • Daily breakfast
  • Lodging at the Misión de los Angeles for either eight or eleven nights, based on twin occupancy (single room accommodation available at a higher rate).
  • Noon snack during classes
  • A five hour tour to Monte Albán with transportation and entrance to ruins
  • A three graduate credit course on Methods and Materials for Teaching Bilingual Students: Dual Language Focus

Option 3 - $600.00

Attendance and completion of three credit Bilingual Methods and Materials course.  Fee also includes a mid-day snack for classes in Mexico.  Participants must attend July 27 and July 30 classes at the Illinois Resource Center in Des Plaines, IL in order to receive graduate credit. 

Option 4 - $300.00

Attendance without credit for course in Bilingual Methods and Materials course.  Attendance of classes in Illinois is not obligatory.  Fee also includes a mid-day snack for classes in Mexico.

Participants in Option 3 and 4 are responsible for their own transportation and accommodations to and from Oaxaca, Mexico. 

A non-refundable deposit of $150.00 must be sent to the Illinois Resource Center no later than May 1, 2001.
