Michele A. Kawood is a Senior Language Testing Specialist for CAL/WIDA partnership projects. She guides the development of computerized and paper test items for WIDA assessments, such as ACCESS for ELLs® and the Interim Assessment for Academic Language Use, with emphasis on the assessment of English language learners in grades Kindergarten, 1, 2, and 3. She also develops online and hybrid course materials to lead educators and consultants through the language test item writing process.
Before joining CAL, Michele was an elementary school teacher in Virginia and a French FLEX teacher for grades 2–5. She earned a B.S.Ed in Elementary Education and French from Bucknell University and an M.S.Ed in Teaching, Learning, and Curriculum from the University of Pennsylvania's Graduate School of Education. Michele is proficient in English and French and an active member of the Phi Beta Kappa Society.
