Samantha Musser is a Performance-based Assessment Specialist at CAL. Since 2013, she has applied her background in sociolinguistics and discourse analysis to the development of the ACCESS for ELLs 2.0 Speaking test, part of the WIDA Consortium’s computer-delivered assessment of English language proficiency. Her work involves linguistically analyzing student and model responses, developing scoring rubrics and rater training materials, and operationalizing academic discourse for test development.
Beyond language testing, Sam’s research interests include discourse and identity, new media discourse, and language attitudes toward dialects of American English. She holds an M.A. in Linguistics with a concentration in Language and Communication from Georgetown University and a B.A. in English from the University of Michigan.
