Professional Development
Quality, sustained professional development is critical to ensure that educators continue to strengthen their practice throughout their career and to help boost the achievement of students in the classroom. When teachers continue to learn and grow, students have the best chance for learning at the highest levels.
Both CAL and WIDA are committed to helping teachers by offering a wide range of professional development opportunities. The organizations are also beginning to work together to collaborate on professional development to help educators expand their knowledge and skills, including the new Spanish Literacy Institutes designed to provide effective academic literacy instruction in Spanish in developmental and transitional bilingual, dual language and immersion education programs.
WIDA Professional Development offerings support educators working to ensure academic success for English language learners.
Workshops: One-hour to two-day offerings, can be face-to-face or web-based
Academies: Three- to five-day face-to-face offerings for 25-30 participants
Institutes: intensive workshops requiring follow-up work for participants to receive authorization or certification
