CAL Board of Trustees Announces
Search for President

The Board of Trustees for the Center for Applied Linguistics (CAL) has launched a national and international search for President to succeed Dr. Terrence G. Wiley, who recently announced his retirement from CAL effective May 2017.

Dr. Wiley was named as CAL's President and Chief Executive Officer in October 2010. "On behalf of the Board of Trustees and staff at the Center for Applied Linguistics, we extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Wiley for his leadership, guidance, and many contributions to CAL," said CAL Board Chair, Dr. JoAnn Crandall.

CAL has established a Presidential Search Committee, chaired by Dr. Eugene E. García, to conduct a comprehensive and inclusive search for the CAL's next leader. Speaking about the Presidential Search Committee, Crandall said, "Our diverse search committee includes representatives from CAL's board, officers, and staff. Together, they bring a deep understanding of the organization, broad knowledge of the key stakeholders served by CAL, and keen insights into the essentials of leadership needed by the organization."

"I am honored to serve as chair of the Presidential Search Committee," said García, "and I look forward to working closely with the committee members to prepare the way for CAL's next president." Continued García, "We invite your nominations to help CAL successfully recruit for CAL's next president. Some key attributes for CAL's president are listed below. We encourage you to email with the name and contact information of your nominee."

CAL's President will be a forward-thinking, distinguished scholar with a demonstrated interest in the wide range of programmatic work that is CAL. CAL's president must be an inspirational and effective leader who will build relationships and foster collaboration both within and outside our organization. Serving as CAL's primary spokesperson, the President will engage broadly and communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.

Key leadership qualities for CAL's leader include the ability to select and empower a talented, effective team that includes a wide range of subject matter experts and support staff. Working closely with the newly created position of Vice President for Administration, the President will focus on long-term strategic objectives and development that will advance CAL's mission and nurture current and future funding sources.
