Presented at: AERA 2019

Findings from a longitudinal study funded by the International Research & Studies program of the U.S. Department of Education provide preliminary information on the biliteracy development of Spanish/English emerging bilingual students in the upper elementary grades in one state in the U.S. They also illustrate the relationship between Spanish and English reading development and how it may differ depending on whether students’ L1 is Spanish or not. These differences need to be explored further to better understand the implications they may have for DL programs that serve the two groups of students.
