CAL K–8 Formative and Summative Oral Proficiency Assessment

This workshop will familiarize participants with CAL's K–8 formative and summative assessments: Classroom Observation Checklist Kit (CLOCK), Student Oral Proficiency Assessment (SOPA) and Early Language Listening and Oral Proficiency Assessment (ELLOPA) and provide guidance for classroom-based assessment and rubric development.

The presenters will use materials specifically designed for teachers of Chinese including sample CLOCK assessment activities and checklists, ELLOPA/SOPA interviews in Chinese, Chinese SOPA and ELLOPA tasks, and rating rubrics. Participants will engage in interactive discussions, simulations including hands-on practice with assessments, and activities that walk them through the procedures for developing rating rubrics for their own classroom-based assessments.
