The pattern of color naming generally develops according to a consistent pattern across languages, according to a study recently published in the journal PNAS. The findings support previous conclusions, the researchers note in this commentary, adding, however, that they found color words also may be lost -- and gained -- in languages, which challenges previous theories about color-term changes.
