U.S. Economy Needs More Foreign Language Studies to Stay Competitive, Report Says
U.S. employers are increasingly seeking employees who speak other languages in addition to English to remain competitive in the global economy, according to a survey commissioned by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages. The report highlights in-demand languages -- among them Spanish, Japanese and Mandarin -- and says more than 30% of those surveyed reported that current employees fail to meet the language needs of the business.
