Language Program Evaluation Workshop: May 26th and 27th

CAL researchers, including TWI’s Julie Sugarman, will conduct a workshop on Language Program Evaluation as part of the National Capital Language Resource Center (NCLRC) Summer Institutes in Washington, DC. Participants will learn different approaches to language program evaluation and the basic steps to designing an evaluation. Topics covered will include basic principles of planning for an evaluation, including defining expectations for evaluation, collecting data and planning for analysis and reporting.

The Center for Applied Linguistics (CAL) has updated its website with new information for two-way immersion and dual language practitioners.

Two teachers working togetherU.S. Department of Education Grants: Professional Development and Evaluation

New grant opportunities for professional development and evaluation have recently been made available through the U.S. Department of Education.

Event Updates

Dual U Summer Institute

The Illinois Resource Center (IRC) will offer a five-day institute for teachers and administrators developing and implementing dual language (two-way immersion) programs. This professional development opportunity, intended for administrators, teachers, parents, and school board members, will be held in Santa Fe, New Mexico, from June 12th-17th.

CARLA Summer Institutes

The Center for Advanced Research on Language Acquisition (CARLA) will hold summer institutes for second language teachers from June 20th-August 19th. Topics include second language acquisition, technology as an instructional tool, and culture in the classroom.

Two-Way CABE's Annual TWBI Conference

Two-Way CABE will hold the 19th Annual National Two Way Bilingual Immersion (TWBI) Conference, A Composition of Best Practices, June 27th-30th in Sacramento, California. The conference will allow teachers and administrators to study and revisit the program components of programs of excellence and to learn new strategies for maintaining successful two-way bilingual immersion programs.

La Cosecha Call for Presenters

La Cosecha invites dual language practitioners to share teaching strategies and other expertise by presenting at this year’s conference, November 16-19th at the Albuquerque Convention Center in New Mexico. The deadline for submissions is May 19th. Please visit the conference website for more information.
