Description: 

This presentation discusses the application of the Guiding Principles for Dual Language Education (GPDLE) in
helping to build Vietnamese Dual Language Programs for heritage learners. We will discuss how the guiding
principles are applied and adapted to address the unique contexts of each Vietnamese community and their
students. Discussion will highlight the common characteristics of Vietnamese dual language programs and unique
challenges (both programmatic and contextual) and implications for best practice. We will make recommendations
of how the next edition of GPDLE could include a variety of support to help educators build high quality dual
language programs across a spectrum of languages.
