“This presentation will discuss the impact that DLBE-focused coursework and targeted coaching with an experienced
dual language coach can have on teachers’ ideologies and beliefs. The discussion will focus on the misconceptions
that educators still have about bilingual education, the benefits of bilingualism for children in school, and how
teachers’ ideologies and beliefs are essential in shaping community perceptions surrounding bilingual education.
Finally, we will present the findings of our study, Project PUEDE, to demonstrate that misconceptions can be
mitigated and how DLBE-specific training and professional support can help teachers teach DLLs effectively and
engage with DLLs and their families.”
