The Center for Applied Linguistics (CAL) is collaborating with the National Indian Education Association (NIEA) on a new project to develop and expand capacity for language immersion programs in schools which serve Native students.
The project, Developing a Native Language Immersion Program Model, will support NIEA’s convening of virtual Listening Sessions to discuss best practices in language revitalization and ways to expand language immersion programs in Bureau of Indian Education (BIE) schools.
Based on community members’ needs, the policy, pedagogy and assessment experts at CAL aim to provide user-friendly publications which further explore critical themes expressed in the Listening Sessions. CAL will also work with NIEA to provide their staff with research and practice based information to continue to use as a resource in supporting ongoing or new language work in community-based settings.
The Center for Applied Linguistics (CAL) is a non-profit organization founded in 1959.
